Pick your overhead shower on three things: size, flow type and how it mounts. A 6-inch head is the practical minimum, 8 inches is the sweet spot for Indian water pressure, and 10–12 inches only works if your pressure is genuinely good or you have a pump — a big rain head on weak pressure produces a disappointing drizzle. Choose single flow (one rain spray) unless you specifically want spray patterns; 271 of the 331 overhead showers we stock are single flow, because in practice most people leave a multi-flow head on rain mode anyway. Size: match the head to your water pressure
This is where most overhead shower disappointment comes from. A larger head spreads the same flow over more area, so each droplet is weaker.
Check your pressure before buying big. A quick test: open your shower fully and time how long it takes to fill a 1-litre bottle. Under 6 seconds is good pressure and will support an 8-inch head. Over 12 seconds and you should stay at 5–6 inches, or fit a pressure pump first.
Ground-floor and low-floor flats in Mumbai buildings often have weaker pressure than upper floors on the same line. If you are in a low-rise or an older building, be conservative.
Single flow vs multi flow
- Single flow delivers one spray pattern — rain. Simpler, fewer parts to scale up, cheaper. 271 of our 331 models.
- Multi flow offers two or more patterns, usually rain plus a massage or jet mode, switched by twisting the face.
Our honest observation from twenty years of selling these: most people pick a pattern in the first week and never change it again. Multi flow is worth paying for if you actively want a massage jet; otherwise put the money into a bigger or better-made single-flow head.
Round or square
Purely aesthetic, with one practical note: square heads look better with square/angular fittings and modern bathrooms; round heads are more forgiving and suit any style. Square heads are marginally more likely to show water spotting along the flat edges in hard water.
Ceiling or wall mounted
- Wall mounted via a shower arm from the wall. Standard, simple, works in any bathroom, easy to retrofit.
- Ceiling mounted via a short drop arm from the ceiling, so the water falls straight down rather than at an angle. Looks cleaner and drenches better — but the plumbing must run through the ceiling, so it is a renovation decision, not a retrofit.

Essco is the value answer at ₹630 – ₹940 — genuine Jaquar Group product, chrome only, single and multi flow. For a rental, guest bathroom or a straight replacement, it is hard to argue with.

What to actually spend
Hard water: the thing that ruins shower heads
Most of urban India runs hard water, and scale is what kills an overhead shower — not failure, just blocked nozzles and an increasingly uneven spray.
Insist on silicone or rubber nozzles. They flex, so you can rub deposits off with a thumb. Rigid metal nozzles scale up permanently and the head has to be replaced.
