Wall-Mounted vs Table-Mounted (Deck) Basin Taps
Wall-mounted taps suit wall-hung basins and free up counter space but need in-wall plumbing. Deck-mounted taps are simpler to install. Here's how to decide.

Short answer
Match the tap to the basin, not the other way around. A basin with a tap hole (most counter-top and table-top basins) takes a deck-mounted (table-mounted) tap or mixer — simpler plumbing, easy to service, cheaper to install. A basin without a tap hole (wall-hung and many designer vessel basins) takes a wall-mounted tap — a cleaner look and more counter space, but the plumbing goes inside the wall, so it must be planned before tiling. In our Jaquar catalog both start surprisingly close: wall-mounted basin taps from ₹1,610 (Fusion FUS-CHR-29441K), deck-mounted from ₹1,900 (Clarion CQT-CHR-23011) — the real cost difference is in the wall work, not the tap.
In detail
What the two mounts actually are
When deck-mounted is the right call
- Your basin has a tap hole. That hole must be used (or the basin swapped) — a deck tap is the natural fit.
- You're renovating without breaking tiles. Deck taps replace one-to-one with no civil work. This is why most Indian retrofits stay deck-mounted.
- You want the widest choice. It's the biggest segment of Jaquar's range — from a ₹1,900 quarter-turn Clarion basin tap to a ₹11,200 Kubix Prime mixer (
KUP-CHR-35191PM) or ₹12,400 Arc (ARC-CHR-87191), with everything between. - Tall (vessel) basins sit best with tall-boy deck mixers — the spout must clear the bowl rim. See how to choose a basin mixer for spout-height rules.
When wall-mounted is the right call
- Wall-hung or no-tap-hole basins. There's simply nowhere to mount a deck tap.
- You want the clean, hotel-style look — clear counter, easy wipe-down, no tap ring stains around the base.
- Small basins. A wall spout frees the entire basin area; nothing crowds the bowl.
- You're at the design/plumbing stage of construction. The supply lines and (for mixers) the concealed body go into the wall before tiling — this is a decision to make with your architect or plumber, not after the tiles are up.
One honest caveat: a wall-mounted mixer (hot + cold) is a concealed fitting — the visible trim pairs with an in-wall valve body sold separately, exactly like concealed showers. Budget for the body and read which concealed valve you need before ordering. A simple wall-mounted tap (cold only, like the Fusion or Florentine FLR-CHR-5441NK at ₹1,800) is much simpler — it threads onto an existing wall outlet, which is why utility areas and WC-area taps are usually wall-mounted already.
Price reality from our catalog
- Wall-mounted basin taps (cold): from ₹1,610 (Fusion) and ₹1,800 (Florentine) in chrome — the budget end of the whole Jaquar basin range.
- Deck-mounted basin taps/mixers (chrome): ₹1,900 to ₹12,400 across series — Clarion and Continental at the value end, Kubix Prime/Opal Prime mid-premium, Arc and designer ranges at the top.
- Wall-mounted designer mixers: the Alive wall-mounted basin mixer
ALI-BLM-85233NKruns ₹7,190 in Black Matt (₹8,220 in Stainless Steel/Antique finishes) — plus the concealed body and wall work. - The hidden line item is civil work, not the tap: chasing the wall, the concealed body, and re-tiling. On a fresh build it's marginal; on a retrofit it usually decides the question in favour of deck-mounted.
Quick decision checklist
- Basin has a tap hole → deck-mounted. No hole / wall-hung → wall-mounted.
- Retrofit without breaking tiles → deck-mounted.
- New construction + want clear counters → wall-mounted, decided at plumbing stage.
- Wall-mounted mixer? Add the concealed valve body to the order.
- Vessel/table-top bowl → deck-mounted tall-boy, or a wall spout set high enough to clear the rim.
