Jaquar Flow Rate Guide: LPM by Category
Jaquar publishes flow rates at 3 bar — a pressure almost no Indian home has. Median flow for every category, what those numbers become at 1 bar and 0.3 bar, and how to choose a shower for your actual pressure.

Short answer
Jaquar publishes a flow rate for most of its range, measured at 3 bar, and we hold that figure for 1,958 products. The medians: a basin mixer runs 14.70 LPM, a kitchen tap 16.08, a WC-area tap 14.30, a health faucet 11.65, a sensor tap 12.30, a hand shower 39.27 and an overhead shower 42.00 LPM. The number that matters more than any of these: almost no Indian home has 3 bar of pressure. A typical Mumbai flat on a gravity-fed overhead tank runs 0.3–1.0 bar, and flow falls with the square root of pressure — so a shower rated 42 LPM will actually deliver around 24 LPM at 1 bar, and about 13 at 0.3. Read the published figure as a ceiling, not a promise.

The 3-bar problem
Every one of those numbers is measured on a test rig at 3 bar. Here is what Indian homes actually run:
Flow through a fixed orifice scales with the square root of pressure. Drop from 3 bar to 1 bar and you keep about 58% of the rated flow; drop to 0.3 bar and you keep about 32%.
This is why a shower that was superb in the showroom is disappointing at home. It is not a defective product. It is 0.4 bar. The fix is pressure, not a bigger shower head — the full working is in low water pressure showers.
Choosing by flow, not by size
The single most common expensive mistake: buying a large rain shower for a low-pressure bathroom.
A 300 mm overhead shower spreads its flow across many more holes than a 100 mm one. At 3 bar that is luxurious. At 0.4 bar the same head produces a wide, cold, weak drizzle, because the water has to cover the whole face plate before it can leave with any force.
If your pressure is below about 1 bar, buy small and dense. A compact single-flow head at 10–20 LPM will feel stronger than a 300 mm multi-flow at 42 LPM. The overhead shower buying guide has sizes against pressure.
At the low end of Jaquar's range, the Octane Slider overhead shower (OHS-CHR-1745, ₹6,292) is rated 10.40 LPM — the lowest-flow overhead shower Jaquar makes, and a sensible choice for a gravity-fed bathroom rather than a compromise.
Where low flow is a feature
Sensor taps, 12.30 LPM median — the lowest-flow tap category Jaquar makes, and the real saving is run time rather than flow. A sensor tap runs for the 8 seconds your hands are under it. A manual tap runs while you soap up. See the sensor faucet price list.
Body showers, 9.04 LPM median — deliberately low, because a body-jet system fires six or eight of them at once. Eight jets at 9 LPM is 72 LPM, which is already more than most Indian plumbing can feed. Count your jets before you count the pressure.
Florentine Prime basin mixers at 10.61 LPM (FLP-CHR-5001BPM, ₹4,972) — the lowest-flow basin mixers in the range, and a good specification for a guest bathroom or an office washroom where nobody needs to fill a bucket.
Where you want high flow
Bath spouts, up to 47 LPM. A tub filler's whole job is to fill 150 litres before the water goes cold. A low-flow spout is a slow bath. This is the one place to buy the biggest number available.
Basin-area and bib taps, 18–35 LPM. Bucket filling. In an Indian bathroom the bib tap is doing real volume work, and a restricted one is a daily irritation.
Wall mixers and diverters, median 31 LPM. The diverter has to pass enough for whatever is downstream. Undersizing here throttles a perfectly good shower head.
Water saving that actually works
Mumbai households pay for water through society charges and tanker top-ups, so this is real money.
- Aerators on basin and kitchen taps. The cheapest intervention there is. An aerated 14.70 LPM basin mixer feels the same as an un-aerated one and uses a fraction of the water. Most Jaquar mixers ship with one — do not let a plumber remove it to "improve the pressure".
- Sensor taps in high-traffic washrooms. Run time, not flow rate, as above.
- Right-sized shower heads. A 42 LPM rain shower run for eight minutes is 336 litres. A 20 LPM head over the same eight minutes is 160. Nobody has ever noticed the difference in a low-pressure flat.
- Do not fit a pressure pump and then keep the big head. Raising pressure to 3 bar makes every fitting deliver its full rated flow. That is the point, but it doubles consumption overnight.
Reading the figure on a product page
Where Jaquar publishes it, the flow rate appears in the spec table on the product page, alongside recommended working pressure. Two things to watch:
- Recommended pressure is not the same as tested pressure. A fitting tested at 3 bar may be rated to work from 0.5 bar. It will function; it will not deliver 3-bar numbers.
- A missing figure is not a bad product. Jaquar does not publish flow for every SKU — accessories, valve bodies and many older codes have none. It means unmeasured, not unrestricted.
