The ₹3,696 that is not a tap

Concealed sensor installations split into two purchases exactly like concealed valves do: a box that goes in the wall, and a kit that sits on the tile. If you are buying a sensor tap for a home basin you want neither — you want a complete table-mounted unit, and those start at ₹10,150.

Where a sensor tap earns its money
Commercial washrooms. This is the honest answer. A tap in an office, clinic, restaurant or showroom washroom does more operating cycles in a month than a home tap does in a year, and the sensor pays back in three ways: water saved, no handle to break, and no handle to touch.
Run the arithmetic on a 20-user office washroom. A manual tap left running through a handwash uses roughly 4–6 litres; a sensor tap delivers about 1.5. At 60 washes a day that is ~90,000 litres a year saved on one basin. In a Mumbai commercial building on tanker top-ups, the tap pays for itself.

- Basin type. A tall vessel or table-top basin needs a tall-boy sensor (103 models); a counter basin needs a table-mounted one (154 models). Wrong height means water hits the rim and sprays.
- Tap hole size. Sensor bodies are wider than most manual taps.
- Water pressure. Sensor solenoids want a reasonable working pressure — an overhead tank two floors up is usually fine, ground-level storage is not. See low water pressure.
- Battery access after installation. If the housing sits inside a closed vanity, check you can reach it.
