Short answer
A horizontal geyser costs ₹8,329 to ₹46,999 across the 20 horizontal models Jaquar and Venus make: ₹8,789 to ₹10,059 at 15 litres and ₹10,459 to ₹11,779 at 25 litres. Buy one when an upright tank won't fit: a loft, a low false ceiling, a duct, or the wall above a bathroom door. Lying down costs some hot water. On our calculator's figures a horizontal tank gives about 7% less from the tank, enough to push two back-to-back showers from 35 litres to 50. None of the 20 is 5-star rated. Prices are as of October 2026.
In detail
When you need a horizontal geyser
- A loft above the bathroom, where the tank has to lie on its side to fit under the slab.
- Above a false ceiling or inside a duct, with an access panel big enough to service or remove it.
- Over the bathroom door, where the wall is long but not tall.
- A low ceiling, where an upright tank would hang into headroom.
If an upright tank fits, buy vertical: it gives more hot water, it is the only way to get 5-star, and at every size the cheapest upright tank costs the same or less.
Bathroom sizes: 10 to 25 litres
Jaquar gives the Elena as height x width. Venus gives two figures per tank. Jaquar prices are Jaquar's 2026 NRP; Venus prices are ours, below Venus's MRP (₹11,195 to ₹62,295 across its horizontals). Venus is the only brand of the two with a 10 litre horizontal.
35 litres and up
From 35 to 100 litres Jaquar's Versa is the cheaper horizontal at every size, and it costs the same as the upright Versa. Above 100 litres only Venus makes a horizontal. For whole-flat systems see Jaquar large water heaters.
What changes against a vertical tank
Usable hot water. Hot water floats on cold. In a tall tank the hot layer stays deep; lying down it is shallower and mixes sooner. Our geyser size calculator draws 70% of an upright tank before the water turns tepid, and 65% of a horizontal one. From the tank alone, a 25 litre gives about 41 litres of 40°C shower water upright and about 38 lying down. That still covers one 5-minute shower, but bigger jobs need the next size:
Showers at 8 litres a minute with 3 minutes between people. The calculator has a horizontal setting if your case is different.
Star rating. Both brands' 5-star lines, Jaquar Briza and Venus Celo Vertical, are vertical only. Venus rates every horizontal 3-star, and Jaquar publishes no star rating for the horizontal Elena or Versa. If the geyser stays on all day, that standing loss is part of the cost of going horizontal.
Price. Venus's Celo Horizontal costs ₹110 to ₹1,020 more than the matching Celo Vertical. Jaquar's Versa costs the same either way, and the horizontal Elena is ₹1,550 (15 L) and ₹1,850 (25 L) cheaper than the upright Elena. Against the cheapest vertical of either brand, a horizontal costs ₹660 more at 15 litres and ₹1,109 more at 25.
Mounting. Jaquar makes the horizontal Elena in right-hand (H codes) and left-hand (LHS codes) versions; the left-hand one has its inlet and outlet on the left. Choose the side your pipes come from, because swapping later means new plumbing. For a Venus horizontal, ask us which end the connections sit on before the plumber fixes the pipe points.
Pressure and warranty. Every Venus horizontal and every Versa is rated 8 bar. Jaquar's page for the horizontal Elena gives no figure, so on pump-fed supply ask before choosing it. Jaquar covers the Elena and Versa for 7 years on the tank, 4 on the element and 2 on other parts; Venus covers the Celo Horizontal for 8, 3 and 2 and the Slim for 7, 3 and 2. Magma Plus carries its warranty as Venus publishes it.
Which horizontal to buy
- 15 or 25 litres, lowest price: Venus Celo Horizontal, ₹8,789 or ₹10,459, with an 8-year tank warranty.
- Pipes fixed on one side, or a Jaquar bathroom: Elena left- or right-hand, ₹9,450 or ₹10,800.
- The tightest gap: compare the Venus Slim's 305 mm figure with the Elena's 320 mm height against your space.
- 35 to 100 litres: Jaquar Versa, from ₹11,550.

FAQ
What is the price of a horizontal geyser?
₹8,329 to ₹46,999 across 20 Jaquar and Venus models, as of October 2026. A 15 litre costs ₹8,789 to ₹10,059 and a 25 litre ₹10,459 to ₹11,779. From 35 to 100 litres the Jaquar Versa is the cheaper horizontal at every size, from ₹11,550.
Is a horizontal geyser less efficient than a vertical one?
Slightly. Our calculator draws 65% of a horizontal tank before the water turns tepid against 70% of a vertical one, about 7% less hot water from the tank. None of the 20 horizontal models is 5-star rated: Venus rates its horizontals 3-star and Jaquar publishes no star rating for its horizontal Elena or Versa.
What size horizontal geyser do I need?
The same as vertical for one 5-minute shower (25 litres) or one bucket bath (15 litres). For two showers back to back a horizontal needs 50 litres where a vertical needs 35, and for two bucket baths in a row 35 litres instead of 25.
What is a left-hand or right-hand horizontal geyser?
It is the side the inlet and outlet connect. Jaquar makes the horizontal Elena in right-hand (ELM-WHT-H015, ELM-WHT-H025) and left-hand (ELM-WHT-LHS015, ELM-WHT-LHS025) versions at the same price: ₹9,450 for 15 litres and ₹10,800 for 25. Choose the side your pipes come from.
