Two things stand out. The premium is not uniform — it is largest on showers (hand showers 3x, overhead 1.9x) and smallest on accessories, where Kohler's median is actually slightly below Jaquar's. And Jaquar's coverage is far deeper in the unglamorous categories: 129 WC-area faucets against 9, 740 mixers and diverters against 83.
Where Jaquar wins
Choice, by a wide margin. 2,602 models against 594. In practice this means Jaquar almost always has the exact combination of category, series and finish you need. Kohler frequently does not, and you compromise on one of the three.
Spares and service anywhere. Jaquar's dealer and service network reaches into towns where Kohler simply is not present. If a cartridge fails in five years, this is the difference between a phone call and a project.
The 10-year faucet warranty. Jaquar publishes a 10-year warranty on its faucets, which is a genuinely strong position and applies to the categories most likely to fail — basin mixers, wall mixers, bib taps, kitchen faucets, health faucets. Other categories carry Jaquar's standard per-category warranty.
Value at the working end. For angle valves, bib taps, waste couplings, health faucets, shower arms and other necessary hardware, Jaquar is comprehensively better value. There is no design payoff in an angle cock.
Finish range. 17 finishes including black matt, black chrome, graphite, gold dust, full gold, gold bright PVD, gold matt PVD, antique bronze, antique copper, white matt and stainless steel.
Where Kohler wins
Design. This is the honest core of it. Kohler's ranges have a restraint and coherence that reads as more expensive across a whole bathroom. If the look is the point, it shows.
Weight and feel. Kohler bodies are generally heavier, and levers move with a more damped, solid action. This is a real difference you can feel in a showroom, though it is not a reliability difference.
The top end. Kohler's ceiling is far higher — overhead showers to ₹5,25,075 and mixers to ₹1,96,875. If you want a statement shower, Jaquar's range does not reach as far.
Basin mixers as jewellery. At ₹14,363 median against Jaquar's ₹7,150, Kohler basin mixers are the category where the premium is most visible on the fitting people actually look at.
The pragmatic answer: mix them
Very common in Mumbai renovations, and we sell it constantly:
- Kohler for the visible pieces in the master bathroom — basin mixer, overhead shower, maybe the spout.
- Jaquar for everything else — angle valves, bib taps, health faucet, waste coupling, bottle trap, shower arm, accessories, and the entire common bathroom.
You get the design where it is seen and Jaquar's value and serviceability where it is not. One caution: match the finish carefully. Chrome is chrome and mixes fine. Black matt and gold vary in tone between brands, and two "black matt" fittings from different manufacturers on the same wall will not always match. If you are going non-chrome, stay within one brand per visible surface.
