Short answer
For most homes the best geyser is a 25 litre, 5-star storage model: the Venus Celo Vertical 25 L (ask the price on WhatsApp) at ₹9,439, or Jaquar's Briza 25 L (ask the price on WhatsApp) at ₹11,650. Bucket baths need 15 litres (Venus Celo Vertical, ₹8,129), back-to-back family showers 35 to 50 litres (Jaquar Versa, ₹11,550 to ₹12,650), and a kitchen sink a 3 litre instant (Venus Jiffy, ₹3,329). Plainly: this compares only Jaquar and Venus, the two water-heater brands our showroom sells. It is not a ranking of every geyser in India.
In detail
The picks
Prices are as of October 2026: Jaquar's 2026 NRP, and our price for Venus, below Venus's MRP. Sizes come from our geyser size calculator, with 25°C mains water and a shower at 8 litres a minute.
One bathroom with a shower
A 5-minute shower uses about 40 litres of 40°C water. A 25 litre tank delivers about 50 and a 15 litre about 34, which is why a 15 litre runs cold halfway through. The Celo Vertical 25 L is 5-star, rated 8 bar, and covered for 8 years on the tank, 3 on the element and 2 on the product. The Briza 25 L is also 5-star and costs ₹2,211 more, but Jaquar covers its element for 4 years. In hard water the element fails first, so that year can be worth paying for.
Bucket baths
A 20 litre bucket at 45°C needs a 15 litre tank, which gives about 22. The Celo Vertical 15 L at ₹8,129 is the cheapest 15 litre from either brand, and 5-star. For Jaquar's 4-year element cover, the Meta 15 L manual (ask the price on WhatsApp) is ₹8,350 and rated 8 bar.
Family bathing back to back
Two 5-minute showers in a row, with 3 minutes between, need 35 litres; three need 50. Jaquar's Versa is the cheaper of the two brands at both sizes: ₹11,550 for 35 litres and ₹12,650 for 50 litres (ask the price on WhatsApp). The 5-star Venus Celo Vertical costs ₹12,359 and ₹15,899. If the family uses two bathrooms, a 25 litre in each usually beats one big tank: shorter pipes, and a spare if one fails. More in Jaquar large water heaters.
High-rise or pump-fed supply
On pump-fed or hydro-pneumatic supply, buy a heater rated 8 bar. Every Venus storage geyser is, and so are Jaquar's Meta, upright Elena, Elena Prime, Terra, Erica 6 litre and Versa. Jaquar gives no figure for the Briza, the horizontal Elena or the Erica digital. The instants are 6 to 6.5 bar, except the Venus Brizo 3 L (ask the price on WhatsApp) at ₹4,209, the only instant either brand rates at 8 bar. Our pick is the Celo Vertical: 8 bar plus an 8-year tank warranty, the longest tank cover either brand publishes. Under high pressure, the tank is the part that fails.
Kitchen
A 3 litre instant at 3 kW gives about 8 litres of 45°C water in two minutes, enough for a couple's washing-up, and draws about 13 A, so it runs on an ordinary 16 A point. For a family, the Jaquar Meta 6 L manual (ask the price on WhatsApp) at ₹7,000 gives about 10 litres. A 4.5 kW instant does the same, but at about 19.6 A it needs its own circuit.
Low ceiling, loft or above a door
The Celo Horizontal 25 L (₹10,459) is the cheapest 25 litre horizontal, rated 8 bar with an 8-year tank warranty. Jaquar's Elena 25 L horizontal (ask the price on WhatsApp) (₹10,800) comes left- or right-hand and is 320 mm high on Jaquar's sheet. A horizontal tank gives about 7% less hot water from the tank and none is 5-star, so choose one only when an upright tank won't fit.
Lowest running cost
Jaquar's Briza and Venus's Celo Vertical are the only 5-star lines in either range. Jaquar publishes the Briza 25 L's standing loss, the heat a full tank loses just staying hot: 0.465 kWh a day. Switching the geyser off after bathing removes most of that, whatever the rating; see geyser electricity cost.
For a large house using hundreds of litres a day, a heat pump moves heat from the air instead of making it. Jaquar gives the Integra-X 200 L a COP of 4.21, about a quarter of the electricity of an element heater. At ₹1,67,500 it pays back only with heavy daily use; the Jaquar heat pump guide works through it.
Tightest budget
The cheapest of either brand at each size: 25 litres, Jaquar Meta manual at ₹9,350; 15 litres, Venus Celo Vertical at ₹8,129; 10 litres, Jaquar Meta manual at ₹7,600; 6 litres, Jaquar Meta manual at ₹7,000; a 3 kW instant, Venus Jiffy 3 L at ₹3,329. Don't save by going a size too small: a Meta 15 litre is only ₹1,000 less than the 25. For the two brands head to head, read Jaquar vs Venus geyser.
