Short answer
For a kitchen sink, buy a 3 litre instant geyser (₹3,329 to ₹5,479) for rinsing and quick washing-up, or a 6 litre storage geyser (from ₹7,000) if someone washes up for a family every day. On the arithmetic behind our geyser size calculator, a household of up to four uses 8–10 litres of hot water per washing-up; a 6 litre tank or a 4.5 kW 3 litre instant each gives about 10. The catch with 4.5 kW is wiring: about 19.6 amps, more than a 16 A socket carries. Jaquar and Venus make 27 kitchen-sized heaters, all priced below as of October 2026.
In detail
How much hot water a kitchen sink uses
The calculator takes 8 litres of 45°C water per washing-up for one or two people, 10 for three or four and 12 for five or more, drawn over about two minutes. What each type gives in those two minutes, heated to 60°C with 25°C water coming in:
Heat-up times are 25°C to 60°C, before losses. Venus's 6 litre Celo has a 3 kW element, which lifts it to about 11.7 litres.
After that the element does the work: about 1.4 litres a minute of 45°C water from 2 kW, 2.2 from 3 kW and 3.2 from 4.5 kW. So a 1 litre instant suits hands and a few utensils, a 3 litre at 3 kW a couple, a 3 litre at 4.5 kW matches a 6 litre tank, and five or more people need 10 litres. Where winter mains water falls to about 12°C, the calculator moves up to four people to 10 litres and five or more to 15.
Wattage and wiring
Current is watts ÷ volts, at 230 V:
- 2 kW (the 6 and 10 litre storage geysers): about 8.7 A.
- 3 kW (the 3 kW instants and Venus's 6 litre Celo): about 13 A, fine on a 16 A point.
- 4.5 kW: about 19.6 A. That needs its own circuit with cable and breaker sized for it; have an electrician confirm before you choose it.
The step from 3 kW to 4.5 kW costs ₹180 on the Venus Jiffy 3 litre and ₹300 on the Jaquar Insta 3 litre, so the wiring decides, not the money. Venus's 1 litre Jiffy, the cheapest heater here at ₹2,909, comes only in 4.5 kW; the cheapest 3 kW model is the Jiffy 3 litre at ₹3,329.
A 5.5 kW tankless heater (Venus Quik ₹6,819, Jaquar Insta Prime ₹9,850) never runs out but draws about 24 A: see instant vs storage vs tankless.
Over the sink or under it
Every kitchen-sized heater here is made to hang upright on a wall, except Venus's two 10 litre horizontals.
- Over the sink, on the wall. The usual choice. The switch stays dry and in sight, servicing is easy, and a short pipe brings hot water to the tap sooner.
- Under the sink, in the base cabinet. Keeps the wall clear, but the heater still hangs upright on the cabinet's back wall, takes most of the cabinet, and its socket must sit well above where a leaking trap would drip. Jaquar gives the Insta as 330 mm tall (1 litre) or 370 mm (3 litre); measure the cabinet first.
Either way the sink needs a tap that takes hot water: see the kitchen faucet buying guide. On pump-fed supply, note the pressure ratings below.
Every kitchen-sized instant geyser
Jaquar prices are Jaquar's 2026 NRP; Venus prices are ours, below Venus's MRP of ₹3,835 to ₹7,735. The Brizo is the only instant either brand rates at 8 bar. Jaquar covers the Insta for 5 years on the tank, 2 on the element and 2 on other parts; Venus instants carry their warranty as Venus publishes it. More in the Jaquar instant geyser guide.
Every 6 and 10 litre storage geyser
Jaquar gives no pressure figure for Briza. Warranty: Jaquar's storage range 7 years on the tank, 4 on the element and 2 on other parts; Venus Celo 8, 3 and 2; Venus Slim 7, 3 and 2. More in the Jaquar 6 and 10 litre guide.

FAQ
Which geyser is best for a kitchen?
A 3 litre instant geyser for rinsing and quick washing-up, or a 6 litre storage geyser for a family that washes up every day. In two minutes a 3 litre at 3 kW gives about 8 litres of 45°C water, and a 3 litre at 4.5 kW or a 6 litre tank about 10.
What is the price of a kitchen geyser?
Instant geysers of 1 to 5 litres cost ₹2,909 to ₹5,479, and the 3 litre models ₹3,329 to ₹5,479. Storage geysers of 6 and 10 litres cost ₹7,000 to ₹10,950. Jaquar prices are Jaquar's 2026 NRP and Venus prices are ours, as of October 2026.
Can a 4.5 kW instant geyser run on a normal kitchen socket?
No. At 230 V a 4.5 kW heater draws about 19.6 amps, more than a 16 A socket carries, so it needs its own circuit with cable and breaker sized for it. A 3 kW model draws about 13 amps and runs on an ordinary 16 A point.
Should a kitchen geyser go under the sink or over it?
Over the sink, on the wall, is the usual choice: the switch stays dry, servicing is easy and the pipe to the tap is short. Under the sink keeps the wall clear, but the heater still hangs upright on the cabinet's back wall and its socket must sit well above where a leaking trap would drip. Measure the cabinet first.
